 Mdoto

Is the traditional game which require 10 to 12 counting seeds or stones and one tossing stone (or lime or other round object).

The traditional game displayed by women and young girls

The game is played in the area around home and other time in public place, if there is special events such as traditional dance or gathering.

Mdoto is played after work and special events and otherwise during the evening. But for girls they can play anytime they want depending with their time.

To entertainment and also used for teaching counting and numbers

The game begin by digging s small hole in the ground

. The object of the game is to move a determined number of seeds into the hole between the time the time stone is tossed and caught. The player being with 1s, then 2s, then 3s counting aloud each time. If the player fails to catch the stone or move the seeds in time, the play moves to the next player

UNESCO & Alwaleed Philanthropies Project in Collaboration with ADEA: Promoting Arts, Culture, and Education through Vocational Training in Tanzania

On October 17, 2024, the UNESCO-Alwaleed Philanthropies "Crafting Change" project was officially launched in Tanzania. The initiative aims to promote community-based development through culturally-focused capacity building and technical and vocational training (TVET) in the country. ADEA was one of five selected grantees out of thirty-eight applicants, participated in the kickoff meeting. Executive Director, Saidi Chilumba, represented the organization and presented the project summary, titled "Enhancing Arts and Culture through Vocational Skills for Employment." The meeting was held at UNESCO’s Dar es Salaam office, with participation from global partners via Zoom, including representatives from UNESCO Tanzania, UNESCO headquarters in Paris, Alwaleed Philanthropies, as well as local and national government leaders from the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA), the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, grantee organizations, and media influencers.
